Watoto

I have supported the work of Watoto for a number of years, as I believe in what they do and have seen the fruits of their work on a number of occassions. The Watoto story is below, and I would encourage you that you make some sort of contribution by way of financial or physical gain to help this Awesome foundation.

The Watoto model is based on the core vision to Rescue a Child, Raise a Leader and Rebuild a Nation. Watoto employs an holistic approach to responding to the cries of the millions of abandoned and vulnerable children and women in Africa.

We do this in three ways:

At Baby Watoto, children 0-2 years are rescued from absolute destitution and, after being restored to normalcy, are either reconciled with surviving family members or graduate to the Watoto Children’s Villages where they continue on their journey to become future leaders of Uganda. Currently one Baby’s Home, The Bulrushes, is in operation in Kampala, Uganda. A second babies’ home is under construction at the children’s village in Suubi and plans for a 3rd in war affected Gulu, Northern Uganda.

Orphaned and vulnerable children are rescued and placed in a Watoto Children’s Village. The village is made up of clusters of homes, where individual families - made up of a house mother and eight children- are housed and a homely environment is created where their physical needs aremet. They receive education, care, nurture and are spiritually discipled. Theintention is that these children grow up to be change agents for Uganda - theirlives having a significant and lasting impact on their country and Nation.

Watoto has three Children’s Villages in Kampala- Bbira, Suubi and Gulu. Watoto Gulu was offically opened in October 2008. Watoto Gulu is located in Northern Uganda and is part of Watoto’s Project Gulu initiative, aimed at being an answer to the plight of the child soldiers in the region.

As an extension of the vision, Watoto has initiated Living Hope ,  to restore dignity and hope to vulnerable women - the most marginalised and wounded people in Africa. Living Hope has initially committed to transforming and restoring the lives of 1200 women in Kampala and 900 women in Gulu.

I hope we can make an ONLINE difference together,

PD
